Twitter Blue Relaunch Delayed Over Fears of Apple’s App Store Fees
Twitter has decided to delay the relaunch of their revamped subscription service Twitter Blue, amid concerns that Apple’s 30% cut of Apple’s App Store purchases could hurt profitability. This comes after Elon Musk publicly tweeted his displeasure with Apple and its fees.
The new Blue, which allows people to purchase a blue verification check mark, was originally set to relaunch on Tuesday, however, this was delayed due to the wave of impersonators. Those who have knowledge of the matter claim that Twitter will make other changes, including a one-cent price increase from $7.99 to $8 and requiring phone number verification.
It appears Elon Musk is determined to avoid having to pay Apple’s fees, hence why Twitter Blue’s relaunch has been delayed so that it is not available as an in-app purchase on iOS. This could potentially mean the launching of a separate website for those looking to subscribe, much like YouTube and other platforms have done.
