One has to have initiative if they want to build a multi-million dollar business. Nobody is going to tell you exactly how to do it, and you simply have to start doing it.

Daymond John discusses how an awareness of your mortality sets you on a path where you have to do everything in your power to “live life to the fullest”.  He suggests literally writing down your obituary and taking note of every single thing you do. 

Daymond John: Skills You Need To Build a Million-Dollar Business

These are the first few steps of forming healthy habits and to be able to be successful, one has to have habits. Nobody will be a billionaire without a daily investment of their time and effort to achieve it. Daymond John also shares the periods in his life where he had to overcome seemingly impossible tasks and recalls how he used the life lessons taught to him by his mother. 

His habits were a form of his discipline, something his mother instilled in him as a young child. Despite this, he still had difficulty figuring out what to do with his life. He realized that he had to make a name for himself so he challenged himself. 

One of the ways he did this was to constantly find new mentors who could excite that part of him to push himself forward. John’s mother had a very strong influence on his success today. He shares how he employed the same process her mother used to advance her skills. 

This led him to choose financial literacy and programming. At that time, it was the best choice and the best path to his dream of becoming financially and professionally successful. This didn’t come with a free pass. Daymond shares his opinions on the lack of successful black people in the field of entrepreneurship and how he made himself one.

After establishing himself a business, Daymond John recalls his values as an employee, and how he used this to become successful. He also lists the characteristics of an ideal employee. When looking for the best candidate, he treats it as a negotiation. He goes in-depth on how to become a better negotiator.
