Ilya Pozin, Founder of Pluto TV, Launches Telly Out of Stealth Today

Move over, VIZIO TV – there’s a new TV in town. Telly, led by none other than Pluto TV co-founder Ilya Pozin, is shaking up the dual-screen smart TV game. And how better to make a splash than by giving the first 500,000 models away for free?

That’s right, Telly is taking a page out of the LA startup handbook and making a bold move to get its name out there. But don’t let the price tag fool you – these babies are worth more than a grand each, with 55 inches of 4K HDR picture quality and a built-in premium sound bar.

Telly includes a free 4K Android TV dongle that you can use to stream any content you choose. It can also work with other streaming devices, such as Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, and Apple TV. Furthermore, it has three HDMI inputs, two USB inputs, and a tuner that lets you watch over-the-air broadcasts.

Telly is the first smart TV to provide a second screen below the main panel, called a “Smart Display.” This screen is thin and is separated from the main TV by a soundbar. The Smart Display can show ads and various widgets such as sports scores, news tickers, weather updates, and stock prices. The ads may appear on the right side of the Smart Display, as seen in the pictures in this article, or as a sponsored news feed on the left side of the screen.

Ilya Pozin, Founder of Pluto TV, Launches Telly Out of Stealth Today

Telly launched stealthily two years ago and has received investments from LightShed Partners and Vayner Media. MNTN, a connected-TV ad firm backed by Ryan Reynolds, has also partnered with Telly. However, the exact amount of money raised by Telly has not been disclosed, but the company’s estimated valuation after the investment is expected to be in the nine-figure range.

The goal is to follow in the footsteps of Pluto, a company that Pozin started with Tom Ryan back in 2013 and was later sold to Viacom for $340 million after six years. Though the purchase price might have seemed expensive back then, Pluto has since grown into a valuable asset worth billions of dollars, and it is now an essential part of Paramount Global’s streaming resources, which Ryan currently manages.

Telly is taking a page from the Pluto playbook and trying to become the next big streaming service. With its free hardware, it’s already making waves in the dual-screen smart TV world. Will it be able to achieve success like Pluto?
